Introduction
Greeting, guys! Welcome to Yukun's Engineering Design Portfolio. I built this website base on the core of engineering design. In this portfolio, I clarified both professional and personal definition of engineering design process. Then I stated my unique engineering design process step by step in this website. Furthermore, I attached threel artifacts with annotations to explain how the process worked in practice. In this introduction I also demonstrated my strengths, areas of progress, and areas for future development as an engineer.
What my belief is
When I was very young, I generated great interest in engineering design such as automobile, aircraft, architecture, and so on. Then, I studied scientific subjects from my elementary school to high school. As I grew up, I was not only satisfied with knowledge in school. I decided to go aboard to study for my favorite major - mechanical engineering. Just as I imagined, studying in America not only satisfied my demand of knowledge but also changed my view of the world. In my life, I always believed that a good engineering design could make human beings better. With comprehensive and in-depth studying, I found that I had a stronger belief to be a better engineer to achieve my goals!
What I am proud of
After many years of studying and practicing, I increased my skills in all aspects. On one hand, I strengthened my basic knowledge of calculus, chemistry, engineering physics, and I got all A’s for those classes. Then, I learned and mastered skills of operating various software such as Excel, Solidworks, matlab, C++, and Labview etc. Finally, I could combine all I studied to apply in practical problems. Besides, I took two part-time jobs, which could improve and enrich my working experience. Additionally, and more important that I participated in many lab experiments and practical activities such as mini hydropower engine project, bridge design, fan performance design, and spur gears design etc.
What I have learned
Mini hydropower engine project is my first engineering design experience in university. Actually, it's not a good memory, since I am an nonnative speaker, language problem causes a lot of troubles to communicate with other team members. Thus, I learned that I needed to improve my English skill quickly to find a proper role to act in a team.
Bridge design was my first time to construct a model with programs, I found operating software was fairly import in modern engineering design.
Fan performance design was the most successful team design which I experienced . After improving my communication and operating skills, I played an useful role in a team to complete the engineering design process successfully. I also attached it in design artifacts.
Spur Gear Design was another successful case I have done individually. In this case, I applied all I had learned from textbooks, and operated excel to accumulate data in an efficiency way. Finally, I met requirements of the problem and produce one most efficiency solution.
What I will do
As you can see, I have learned and practiced a lot in the engineering design. However, the more I learned, the less that I felt I knew. I realized that all my engineering design was simple, and did not have a test in actual environment. At same time, my knowledge and practical experience were still not enough to support me to be an qualified engineer. So, I will strive to undergraduate, looking for an internship experience, and catching opportunity to participate in higher level projects.
What I am interested
Combining with my personal experience, hobbits, and current situations, I'd like to study, research and practice more about solid mechanics in the future. If I have a chance, I will also commit myself to construct a new completely standard industrial system in China. Meanwhile, I 'd like to bring American engineering education system to China, then more Chinese students could study engineering in a better way.
What is my goal?
To be a better engineer, to make human world a better place.
